The Jameson 5K at Southwestern began in 2001 as a way of honoring the memory of Jaysn Jameson and to increase the endowment of the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Each year of the race our goal is to improve upon the last year and build the race to a premiere event for Southwestern University and Georgetown.
Fun Runs in general are not large fundraisers unless there are sponsors that underwrite the expenses of the event. Each year the Jameson 5K at Southwestern has been supported by many local businesses such that all the registration fees can be donated directly to the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
During 2001, the first annual event, there were 76 registrants for the race, of which 62% of the registrants had a tie to Southwestern University by being an alumni, student, faculty or staff member. Of the 76 registrants 66% were from Georgetown and the surrounding areas. All the registration fees were donated to the Scholarship Fund which totaled $810.
In 2007, there were 356 registrants for the 7th Annual event of which 83% were from Georgetown and the surrounding areas. Many of these registrants have participated in this event for multiple years. In 2007 alone, $7966.60 was donated to the Scholarship Fund from the registration fees and additional donations received. This brought the total amount donated from all the races to $35868.60.

Highlights from the 6th annual Jameson 5K

The weather was perfect at Southwestern University's Campus in Georgetown for the 6th annual Jameson 5K. The 5K Run and Walk course traveled along Georgetown city streets and part of the San Gabriel Hike and Bike Trail.
Over 300 participants came out to enjoy the mildly challenging course. Among the participants, Southwestern University's Cross Country Team came out in full force placing 4 men in the top 5 male positions and 2 of their women in the top 5 female positions overall.
The men's overall finish came down to a sprint between two Southwestern athletes, Jameson Otto and Aaron Contreras with Otto narrowly edging out Contreras at the line with a time of 16:16. 29 year old Meredith Johnson-Fluck (Southwestern alumni '99) from Cedar Park easily won the women's race in 19:48.
Long time Austin area racers Jesse Devlyn and Lynn Doelger took the Men's and Woman's Masters race. Devlyn ran a time of 18:27 for a 6th place overall finish while Doelger ran at a 6:37 mile pace for a 20:40 time and a 4th overall place for women.
This is one of those fun small town running/walking events to put on your calendar for next year.
All proceeds from the 5K benefit the Jaysn Jameson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southwestern University.
